Introducing This Time in History: The Battle of Gettysburg

Hello friends,

Much to my anticipation, and the anticipation of the other fellas involved, I’d like to introduce to you our recent short film, This Time in History: The Battle of Gettysburg.

This Time in History, Tape I (01-25-14)

Wes as the twisted host of This Time in History, Chet McCrimpson

The educational merits implied by the title should clue you in that this project’s beginnings were not my initiation, but the suggestion of my US history teacher, who said, “Wes, I know you like making films. Why don’t you do your Civil War battle presentation as a video?”

A couple of guys by the name of TR and Ben were my assigned partners, but soon became my hired actors. From then on, I drove the video project, and when we got together to shoot the thing, we compiled our individual research together to make the film.

Considering the subject, it’s only natural if you raise your eyebrow at the pictures above and below, considering their screwball comic implications atop the northern continent’s bloodiest pinnacle of brotherly mutilation. But believe me when I say, it would’ve been a lot worse (and by a lot, I mean a lot) if not for TR stepping in and shutting down my original outline. But these details are best left for an independent page dedicated to This Time in History: The Battle of Gettysburg, similar to the Trekkies Into Darkness page that is currently under the tips of my fingers, ablaze.

Even with the film’s comic touches, we think it is tastefully done. As director and editor of the project, I feel the material, while comic and sincere, works well. Because of how we shot our moments and divided the scenes, I was able to provide the right emphasis in post-production.

We held the premiere for all our homeschool co-op history class to enjoy on February 7th as TR, Ben, and myself sat back and didn’t have to worry about fiddling with note cards. A camera in the hands of a savvy editor was far more luxurious.

I’m very proud of my work and thrilled that I was allowed the creative freedom to turn the assignment into a colorful new video under the 2014 banner of Wes Brooks Productions.
